In the mood for Lisbona Impressioni estive sulla capitale portoghese

The summer is nearing its sunset by now and from all the ideal destinations for a week or a vacation, we wanted to talk to you about Lisbon, a city that we love and that we’ve already talked to you about in a number of posts. But in particular we wanted to talk about its light: in few other places in the world have we found such beautiful light, capable of bringing out the streets, buildings, glimpses, and as such we propose the snapshots that Alessia Ceccherini has taken for us.

Amongst the most interesting neighborhoods Chiado stands out, which is less touristy than Bairro Alto but that is nonetheless rich in charm and has lots of places to discover; like for example the café “Hello, Kristof” that is a small and intimate bistro with a style that’s all its own, which ranges from posters to vintage books, a mix of chairs and a veiled industrial style that kind of reminded us of an artist’s circle from our days. Anyway, we weren’t able to go without enjoying the lovely Bairro Alto with its little shops, typical bars where you can eat dinner and enjoy exciting fado performances. Here we stayed in “The Independente Hostel & Suites”, where the décor had its own personality and relied heavily on vintage (just like we like), and it was suitable for any time of guest—those who love privacy and suites as well as those who like to share a room and meet new people; not to mention its restaurant “The Decadente” with a terrace that offers a breathtaking view of the city. Another restaurant that struck us for its interiors was the Prado, very minimalist and with a large, very bright central hall—and here we take you back to the light of Lisbon.

Moving now toward Belém, the Maat (Museu de Arte, Arquitetura, Tecnologia) is worth seeing which was inaugurated in 2016 along the Tagus river: the architecture of the building is what makes its unique and particular, the succession of the curved lines and the totally white main façade (which reflects a lot of light) soften and sooth the grandeur of the building. Not far from Belém, in the Alcantara district, there is Lx Factory, a cultural center within a former industrial area: inside you can find shops, bars, but also photographic studios and some exhibition and concert spaces.
