Aperto nel 2014, il Murakami restaurant si trova a Londra, vicino al Covent Garden. Lontano dai facili orientalismi questo ristorante Giapponese, si caratterizza per un uso sofisticato dello stile un po’ industriale, offrendo un’immagine importante ma nel contempo confortevole.  Tanti i tavoli a disposizione, ma l’atmosfera è comunque intima, grazie ad un sapiente uso dei materiali e dei colori. Il pavimento in listoni di legno si armonizza molto bene con le pareti, in parte lasciate con cemento a vista, e con le grandi travi di acciaio, dipinte di un turchese polveroso, che scandiscono lo spazio. Molto belle le poltroncine dal sapore nordico, rivestite di tessuto azzurro e di un bel tessuto tortora chiaro. Il verde è presente in modo suggestivo sull’estesa parete di fondo e come lungo centrotavola, quasi a ribadire un rapporto con la natura. Molto interessante anche l’illuminazione, tutta giocata sulle ombre e le penombre in stretto rapporto con il light design della tradizione giapponese.

Opened in 2014, the Murakami restaurant in Covent Garden, London, is far from the over done oriental fads, but distinguishes itself thanks to the sophisticated use of industrial elements, creating an interesting and stron image while remainj g comfortable. There are quite a few tables but the atmosphere somehow stays intimate, thanks to a smart ipuse of colors and materials. The large floorboards harmonize with the rough cement walls and the steel beams, painted a dusty turquoise and which give a sort of articulation to the room. Nature is nonetheless present in the form of table runners and on the furthest wall, reconnecting an otherwise rather industrial environment to a more organic feel. The lighting is also interesting, with a charming play of shades and half-light, another wink to Japanese atmospheres.
