In the coastal city of Guarujá, an hour and a half from Sao Paulo, stands this vacation home immersed in the tropical plants and designed by the local studios Zalc Arquitetura and Rua 141. Called House NK, the house extends for 400 square meters on two floors, and is surrounded by a garden that includes an outdoor pool and a covered patio. The design objective is evident already from the first impact with the construction and it is to integrate external and internal environments; thanks to the large windows, the green walls and the terraces on the first floor, the separation is almost imperceptible and the rooms are much brighter and open to the outside. At the entrance, there is a glass foyer that leads to the living room and the dining room, both double height and with a large glass wall divided by the staircase leading to the upper floor, where we find another living room and four bedrooms with bathrooms en suite. Arranged in a square layout, the spaces make the most of the natural light and the cross ventilation, as a way to reduce the use of the air conditioning. As for the materials, both outside and inside the contrast between industrial materials and natural materials prevails: in the first case, it arises from the combination of the gray stone on the ground floor with the plaster on the facade on the first floor, while inside it’s created thanks to the white of the walls in contrast with the numerous pieces of furniture in wood, straw, rattan and hemp, that give the environment an atmosphere in symbiosis with nature but in a contemporary key. Most of the furniture also, are pieces by Brazilian designers, like the armchairs and the sofa by Bruno Carvalho, the lamps by Mel Kawahara and the coffee tables by Estudio Bola.
